Dariusz Hochman is a classicist with an eye on the future and a foot in the past.  Inspired by the Vaganova method as well as the teachings of Anna Northcote, Igor Schewezoff and Leon Wojcikowski, Dariusz combines the technique requisite for today’s dancer with the artistry that sets great dancers apart.  Together with instruction on placement, line and precise footwork, his teaching emphasizes the pleasure of dancing, musicality, an understanding of space, and fluidity of movement.

The class starts with a thorough barre, rotating between fast and slow movements that challenge younger dancers but are still kind to the limitations of older students. In addition to developing a beautiful adagio line, the variations of petit and grande allegro promote quick footwork and physical stamina.

In center, Dariusz moves beyond the tiny dos and don’ts of technique to focus on quality of movement. Using his love of music, he choreographs simple pieces that showcase the timeless beauty of ballet and inspire his students to dance.  He often ends classes with exercises that help students cool down while making the most of their stretch.

Mr. Hochman prides himself on creating a serious but nurturing atmosphere where students learn at their own pace as well as from one another. The supportive environment helps students progress rapidly and fosters a special camaraderie that is usually found in professional dance companies.
